Ooo! Fun! I am currently obsessed with Asian soups of all kinds - tom yum, hot & sour, pho... Mmmm, pho! I love pho, but I just don't trust that vegetarian pho in restaurants is actually vegetarian, so I learned how to make it myself. The secret to the broth is star anise, which fills the house with that pungent, beautiful licorice smell that's the hallmark of pho houses.
ReplyDeleteI love love love your work!
My favorite dish to make is Mississippi Mud! Super fun to make, and just as good to eat! Yay!
ReplyDeleteOh, Mississippi Mud sounds good! Cara, I must agree with your love of Asian soups. Joe has been making an amazing udon this winter and I can't get enough of it on cold days!
ReplyDeleteChristy
Artichoke dip! So easy and so yummy!
ReplyDeleteI love to make sour cream chicken enchiladas.. and it's so easy. Just roll cooked shredded chicken with your favorite cheese into a numerous tortillas... I use about 6 for a 9x13 pan. Place filled tortilla in pan, seam side down. Here's the funky part.. sound odd.. but it really is good. Mix a jar of gravy with 3/4 of a 8oz tub of sour cream and pour over top of the enchilladas. Bake on 325 for about 20 mins and you are done!
ReplyDeleteI love making buttery rolls. I feel like I need all day for it, though. And a clean kitchen.
ReplyDeleteThis winter, I've been loving lentil curry. My husband is a big meat and potatoes guy, so imagine my surprise when he told me that my little old vegitarian lentil curry dish is one of his favorite meals! I serve with basmati rice and a little chopped cilantro sprinkled on top and some garlic naan on the side. So wonderful!
ReplyDeleteHey, Farouche, just saw your article on Etsy! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteAs for my favorite dish to make...that is really tough. Creamy chicken and wild rice soup is a great one, though--and a Minnesota standard, so it makes me feel like I'm an in-the-know native. Even though my nieces and nephews won't each it because they think it looks like bugs, I love how the long, black wild rice curls up when it cooks and has that fantastic chew. Tender but still has texture. The soup also has a fair amount of vegetable matter, which I love.
I like to serve the soup with a homemade loaf of crusty-on-top, tender-on-the-inside European peasant bread. Great for dipping in the soup...or olive oil and balsamic vinegar. We just tear pieces off and dunk them. The house smells wonderful from baking and cooking, too!
I'm currently on a cooking high as I've just taken a few cooking classes.
ReplyDeleteCurrent favs.
making our own bread: LOVE the book, DOUGH: Simple, Contemporary Bread by Richard Bertinet.
It accompanies so many dishes nicely with some olive oil, pepper and parmesean. YUM.
ALSO loving SQUASH mac and cheese.
ooh. and CHILI. I love a good chili.
I love to make lasagna! It is so tasty, especially with garlic bread on the side. So yummy!
ReplyDeleteI love to bake. My "specialty" is banana bread. Here is a link to my recipe if your interested :D

My favorite dish is a vegan one called Stuffed Shells. It's past tubes filled with delicious tofu "ricotta" and spices, topped with marinara and faux meat crumbles. So delicious and indulgent, but lower in fat and easy on the conscience :)
ReplyDeleteChocolate cherry cake. Moist, with extra fudge frosting. Creamy vanilla ice cream. White and blue ceramic bowls. Cold spoons. Just the two of us. Me in dad’s pink La-Z-Boy, rocking. You on the couch, knees curled up, feet to the side. Red Subway shirt and black pants. Clink, clink, clinking … spoons on the bowls. Mmmmmmmmms. Laughter. Chocolate covered teeth smiles.
ReplyDeleteOne morning my senior year of high school I awoke to find my mom had made me chocolate cherry cake with ice cream for breakfast. It's my favorite memory, my favorite breakfast, and my favorite recipe to bake!
My favorite quick dish to make is upside down pita pizza - pita bread, topped with 4 kinds of cheeses and tomato sauce on top, YUMM!
ReplyDeleteMy fav dish to cook is Chicken Velvet Soup! As a little girl, my mother would take me to the LS Ayres Tea room in Downtown Indianapolis. She would make me behave...and remind me that it was a special treat to go there, as my grandmother and great-grandmother had also eaten there on "fancy" occasions. This year, I had a delightful day with my own little girl at the Tea Room. I was once again reminded how the Chicken Velvet Soup was so important to the women of my family. We now make it at home, and we feel so important when we eat it!
ReplyDeletemrsannieshaw@yahoo.com
My favorite dish to make is chicken and dumplings. The thick, homey chicken stew with light-as-air dumplings is always a win.
ReplyDeleteboingerhead@gmail.com
I would love to learn to make Indian food someday.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite dish to make is Italian stuffed jumbo pasta shells. Stuffed with meat and 3 cheeses, they are not exactly the healthiest meal, but they are loved by everyone who tries them.
heidig@gmail.com
To vary Friday night Pizza we started making Polenta Pizza. So good and just enough of a change from the norm. Healthier too!
ReplyDeleteI love to make confetti pepperoni soup. It's one dish all 6 members of my family will eat, without complaints. I throw in beets, cabbage or spinach, carrots, celery and onions. And they like it so much, they don't notice the veggies they won't normally eat. I make bread to go with it, it's a happy night!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun giveaway, they would look so good in my kitchen.
I like to make Boterkoek. It's a receip for a Dutch Butter Cake. Not only is it simple to make but it's fun to say it and then explain what it's like!
ReplyDeleteI love to make lasagna. It was the first "grown up" dish I learned to make.
ReplyDeletejellen814 at live dot com
I love making chicken with apple mushroom sauce. Go to my blog for a recipe:
ReplyDeletehttp://rustysgirl.blogspot.com/2009/04/chicken-with-apple-mushroom-sauce.html
My favorite dish to make is pasta and prawns - one of the first dishes I learned how to make when I was on my own - my mom always made it with tiny little shell pasta and I won't make it any other way. It's great with fresh sourdough bread (my dad is a baker in San Francisco so grew up on the stuff).
ReplyDeleteMmm my favorite dish is Honey Lime Enchiladas. I found the recipe at The Sister's Cafe then tweaked it to my liking. It's my go-to dish to make for company and I've never gotten anything but rave reviews on it. It's so delicious that I am fairly confident I will never need to hunt for another enchilada recipe again.
ReplyDeletewaterchic83@yahoo.com
I've got lots of favorite. I really like baking bread, but I also like my special tofu recipe!
ReplyDeletekelly.lynn.baker@gmail.com
I think I could eat chili every day and not get sick of it. I am a vegetarian, mind you, so there is no meat (or fake meat--it grosses me out) but it is loaded with kidney, black and garbanzo beans. Best when paired with cornbread!
ReplyDeleteWhen we're feeling indulgent and not too concerned about our cholesterol my husband LOVES when I make creme brulee!
katidyd at hotmail dot com
I LOVE making twice-baked potatoes and meatloaf. It is a dish from my childhood that I appreciate SO much more now that I know how long it takes to make. My sister made it even better by adding cheese to the meatloaf and making several mini loafs as to one huge one. Makes packing them for lunch a breeze.
ReplyDeleteI'm not really into cooking but I love to bake. My favorite recipe is for Red Velvet Cake. I make the cake and icing from scratch using a recipe that was passed on to me from my favorite aunt. It is a lot of work and you can only make it successfully on non-rainy days (not kidding) but it is so worth it.
ReplyDeleteAll of these sound divine!
ReplyDeleteI love anything with caramelized onions. The smell is amazing! I guess I'm a big fan of grilling steaks and caramelizing onions to go with them.
ReplyDeletee.estt[at]yahoo[dot]com
The first place I ever cooked professionally was a little asian restaurant owned by this fun/hip young couple. They had this great recipie for roasted red pepper and shrimp dumplings. We hand rolled them ourselves and they were a big hit! It soon became my standard "lets have someone over for dinner" go-to meal.
ReplyDeletemy hubs used to sing that all the time to me! I make awesome breads -- quick bread, yeast bread, pancakes, you name it. Favorite dish to make (and eat) would be lasagna in the style that my Italian sister-in-law taught me. with my bread, of course.

ReplyDeleteOne of my favorites is a pot roast with 1 cream of mushroom soup, one pack dry onion soup mix and 1 can stewed tomatoes, mix it all together and cook in a crock pot. No prep, no sweat and it falls apart when cut, add red mashed potatoes with sour cream and cream cheese and your in heaven. Especially on these cold nights in the midwest.
ReplyDeletePS. I received my "happy happy" from you and stopped by your store to look at this prints as my next purchase.
keeping my fingers crossed!!
I really enjoy cooking. This Fall I've tried a lot of soups. Last night was corn chowder- yummmmmm. Last week it was a sweet potato soup with curry. Any soup with grilled cheese.

I love to cook and one of my favorite foods to make is a big pot of Veggie Soup! I love all the veggies and it makes the house smell so good...Add hot rolls you got a meal :-)

I actually enjoy baking more than cooking. my favorite is probably making apple pie from scratch and cutting up all the apples myself. there is something really therapeutic about chopping.

I have this ridiculously delicious recipe for pumpkin chili! So good and spicy! Also it's a vegetarian dish and that makes me happy :)
ReplyDeleteMy, oh my! The more I read these comments the more hungry I get! I better stop before I have a midnight feast and raid the fridge.

I love making spaghetti. I can't cook so well, and that is an easy dish that still tastes amazing!
ReplyDeletemnewton1985(at)aol(dot)com
One of my favorite dishes to make is Ethiopian Tomato Lentil Stew. I can make it using pantry ingredient (canned diced tomatoes, dry lentils, onions and garlic!) plus it's spicy without being overwhelming. I love making it for potlucks, it tastes like a complicated dish but it's really easy to just throw together. Make it with some biscuits or a side of rice and it's perfect! :)
ReplyDeleteMy specialty is Pecan Pie, it is delish.. I learned how to make it from my great-great grandmother.
ReplyDeleteI love those prints! I would love them for my kitchen.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite thing to make is lemon meringue pie. It was the first totally from scratch pie I learned to make and I always feel such a sense of accomplishment. There is nothing like making your own crust and meringue. Yum!
My favorite recipe to make is Cherry Almond Coffeecake. It's a vanilla flavored coffeecake with cherries on top, almonds sprinkled all over, and lots of sweet dribbly icing all over the top. So sweet and delectable! I can eat for dessert AND breakfast! :)

ReplyDeleteI loving making a rice bean and veggie crock pot meal....oh so good!
ReplyDeleteI love making my trademark Jambalaya. I use tons of beef and sausage so it's not for you faint hearted eaters! I always use organic veggie stock instead of water too! MMmmmm, I think I might make that tonight. :)

Ooooh!!! My favorite dish is lasagna! My grandmother taught my younger sister and I how to make it when we were 8 & 10, and we've been making it ever since! The most recent recipe I've used is the one out of Pioneer Woman's Book. It is SUPER tasty!
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing that gives me more joy than making a batch of my Grandmother's homemade spaghetti sauce...even though we are German we can masquerade as Italians when this sauce is prepared, all day as your insides jump for joy! I am the only one my Grandmother passed the recipe to so I feel her presence guide me when I make it, when she passed in 2004 she had made a pot of Spaghetti at my Mom's and we had froze some of it, after the funeral we all fought over that last pot of heaven!Love&miss you Gmom!
ReplyDeleteI love turkey!!!! I just get tired of it after awhile!!! So when I make a turkey, we have one meal of plain turkey, then I make turkey stroganoff. Very simple to make and the best part is that it freezes very very well!!!! All I do is make up any type of noodles (we like bow tie) Then in another pan warm spagetti sauce, mushrooms, turkey, onions, peppers, and some italian seasoning. Once everything is nice and hot, I then add some sour cream to the sauce. Let it cook alittle longer, then mix the sauce and noodles together. Everyone in this house loves it!!!
ReplyDeletepie, pie, and pie! With homemade crust, of course. When under a strict timeline, yes, this can be stressful. BUT, when you can savor the moment, boy is it a moment. Flaky crust, sublime filling, often from the bounty of the season, and the 'retro,' homey feel to boot. It's an art, and the kiddos love joining in. (BTW, _Love_ the prints. Gorgeous!)
ReplyDeleteOn these cold winter days I love to make basque potato soup. It is spicy and easy to make and is so good with a baquette of crusty bread.
ReplyDeleteI love baking sweet treats and I don't even have a sweet tooth! But it's so fun to take fresh banana bread or cookies to work and brighten everyone's day! And of course I bask in the praise. Shameless! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your posters and cards! I found you on Etsy and I've been wanting to get some of your cute stuff! Might as well try to win it! ;) These signs would look great in my kitchen! (hint, hint...)
ReplyDeleteAnyways, I also LOVE cooking and baking. Two of my favorite meals to make are my special "Three Meat Meatloaf", and also Julia's Beef Bourguignon. They are both so delicious and a great hearty meal for the cold months. They take me half the day to prepare, but they are both so worth it. :)
Beer bread! It's so easy, involves beer (um, hello!) and makes the house smell so yummy. Warm out of the oven, slathered with melting butter, alongside a bowl of chili... yep, I'm good to go!
ReplyDeletePretty! My favorite dish is always the last one I made that was a success! Last night was roast pork loin rubbed with fresh cracked pepper, lemon zest and ground rosemary, acompanied by almond and golden raisin rice pilaf. My husband LIKED it, and he never LIKES food! I was moved :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite dish to make is my secret baja chicken enchillada soup. I love how spicy it is on a cold winter night!
ReplyDeletewriteme at heidimail dot com
I love chicken fjatas. They are so easy to make and sooooo tasty.
ReplyDeleteOh man, I can't wait to get my kitchen back. We're in the midst of a remodel and I could use some new art!
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, I'm a baker. And my favorite among favorites is cookies.
i love pasta!!! with lots of cheese on it
ReplyDeletelaurita_naranjo@hotmail.com
Cheesecake, of course! :)
ReplyDeleteHow do I pick just one dish? I make a chocolate cake for husband's birthday that's to die for: three layers, with an icing that's akin to the ganache inside a truffle. You basically take heavy cream and heat it, pour it over chocolate to melt, and then stir over ice to cool. Then when it's spreadable, ice away! We savor every last piece of it.
ReplyDeleteI love baking - cakes are my favorite!
ReplyDeleteI make such good homemade Potatoe and Bacon Soup. The delicious scent of the onions and bacon and the wonderful taste of it all stirred together with cream and served with a pinch of chives and cheddar cheese. This is my comfort food!

What a fun giveaway! :-)
ReplyDeleteWell, I love to bake. But I'd have to say my absolute favorite thing to bake is chocolate-chip oatmeal cookies. I first started making them based on a recipe my mom gave to me. Over the years, I've tweaked it here and there until it's become THE chocolate-chip oatmeal cookie. They're magically delicious ;).
My favorite are these crescent rolls. However, you substitute some of the butter and the egg with mashed squash...Really! The come out super moist and golden brown.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite dish to bake is banana bread - because I always have bad bananas lying around and it's so easy and delicious! Thanks
ReplyDeleteHeather
I love making chocolate chip cookies! Our my favorite family recipe double corn bread that my friends beg for the recipe :)
ReplyDeleteI love making soup. Especially naughty cream soups.
ReplyDeleteSpicy Mac... Delicious!!!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is Cheese Straws. They are a southern specialty, but I think that my family has the best recipe. Honestly, no one else's recipe has the intense cheese flavor, crispness, or perfect amount of heat in these little crackers!
ReplyDeleteThese all sound umm, umm good!

ReplyDeleteMy favoritestestest soup to make in the whole wide world will make your tummy sigh with happiness and your heart stop from all the rich deliciousness! It involves a blender, cream, soft swiss cheese (I prefer laughing cow) and some boiled veggies:
ReplyDeletea potato (skinned)
an onion (also skinned)
a green pepper (not spicy but peppery)
Some zucchineees (2-3, don't have to be skinned)
.......hm...
and I think that's it...either way, boil veggies until soft, combine with cheese in blender, add cream until soup is wonderfully thick and well...creamy! Some salt and freshly ground pepper make this an awesomely wonderful winter soup. Yummy! When I spent some time studying abroad in Spain, this was a favorite dish of my host mom. It was so good I asked her to give me the recipe and was one of the first things I made for my then-boyfriend-now-fiancee upon my return home. I like to think some of its tastiness was involved in the "now-fiancee" part of that label. Who'd wanna pass up a lady that can make something that amazing? :)
I love making cinnamon rolls. It's so therapeutic to knead dough! And the smells...oh the smells. And the cream cheese frosting. Holy wow.
ReplyDeleteThose are so cute! My favorite thing to make is ANYTHING chocolate - cake, cookies, pie, yum! I also like to make my mom's white chicken chili...I wish I had the recipe to give you because it is soooooo good.
ReplyDeletemy favorite homemade dish that i make is my lasagna

My favorite thing to make MUST be...chicken & veggie schezuan stir fry becasue I make it more often than anything else! Oh, wait, maybe that's because it's super easy AND so, so tasty, with just the right amount of kick. :)
ReplyDeleteMy current favorite dish to make is actually a dessert. :) I found the recipe on bakerella website. It is called cake balls, almost like a cafe with frosting inside of a chocolate truffle. You can use any flavor cake and any flavor frosting so the flavor possibilities are endless!
ReplyDeletemrs.angielingo@gmail.com
cupcake brownies with mini reeses pieces in the middle and homemade chocolate frosting! So easy and completely yummy, worth breaking your diet for!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite thing to make is zinfadel braised short ribs served with mashed potatoes and oven roasted vegetables. It is comfort food taken up a notch.
