I spent last week rock climbing in Yosemite National Park but took a day off to hike up Yosemite Falls, the highest measured waterfall in North America and stopped to admire the view on our way to the top. It’s always a treat to bask in the shadows of Yosemite’s great monuments and look upon its natural wonders and I count myself lucky to enjoy them, but as I often find myself scaling rocks and hiking ever upward toward peaks in the heavens, it’s places like this that make me contemplate, make me stop and think about the journey visible in stone, in the trees, in the streams and falls and in my own life. Each of my wrinkles is like a ring of a tree. Each scar is like a glacial cut or volcanic crack in a stone. And each tear is like a raindrop from a mid afternoon thunderstorm, so often passing just as quickly as it came. And it’s here that I remember, it’s not about reaching the top it’s about the journey on the way there. Take a moment today and ponder your journey. What is your destination? How are you getting there? And are you enjoying the ride?
